Regular readers will know that I always do the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch each year. This year, an additional survey has been added, and will take place during the week of the 8th - 14th June. Visit the website, and MAKE YOUR NATURE COUNT.
RSPB BIG GARDEN BIRDWATCH Will be spending an hour this weekend sat by the conservatory window doing the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Why not do your bit to collect data on changing geographical patterns of the most common species. You don't need binoculars, just a cup of tea, half a packet of ginger nuts and an hour of your time... Visit the RSPB website to download a data collection form.
Crumbling Coastlines A lot of stories at the moment related to the Norfolk coast, and its possible future. This followed a report, and comments by Lord Smith of the Environment Agency This was featured on the BBC NEWS, and there was also an excellent discussion on the GUARDIAN's WEBSITE . The PRUNED blog had a very interesting post, which included some of Andrew Stacey's wonderfully sharp images of Happisburgh. Well worth reading - thanks to Noel Jenkins for the tipoff there. Check out this DEFRA website for suggestions on adapting to climate change. Also check out the STAND UP TO CLIMATE CHANGE website. Today's Eastern Daily Press had a front page which featured Happisburgh. Head over to site to capture the articles quick. Also got a letter today from the RSPB . Just done this with my daughter. We had a busy hour with a lot more birds than the last few years when we've done it. Entered my results online. Here they are: It's not too late. Go to the RSPB SITE for more details and a check list. All you need is an hour during this weekend. Sit down with a cup of tea and a cookie and get spotting... The RSPB is a major conservation charity. Why not become a member while you're at it.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch Make sure that you take part this weekend in the annual RSPB event. There are podcasts to download by Kate Humble. There are fears that the record-breaking temperatures of the summer and autumn of 2006 may have changed the habits of some birds, and affected their migration patterns and food supplies. Spend an hour - download the survey sheet - make sure that you add your data. 'The Independent' (which gave away free postcards today) suggests 10 species that you might be lucky enough to spot as well as the more usual birds: Song Thrush Siskin House Sparrow Chiffchaff Blackcap Goldcrest Green woodpecker Fieldfare Brambling Redwing Going to take part tomorrow. Will let you know how I get on... Update: here are our results. Fairly slim pickings !!
