Bank Holiday !! But of course, it's precipitating down... Image from BBC Weather for East of England . Just back from a pint of Old Speckled Hen at the Old Hunstanton Social Club, and popped in to get some Jersey Royal New Potatoes. Like the Arbroath Smokies I had in Dundee last October, these have a PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION status (see symbol below), which I posted about some time ago. This means that they are: "products which must be produced or processed or prepared within the geographical area and have a reputation, features or certain qualities attributable to that area." Also a DEFRA report on LOCAL FOOD : what does 'local' mean ? Apparently according to a Waitrose ad I saw yesterday it means within 30 miles of the store... Article in Times magazine yesterday talked about LOCAVORES : people who eat only local food.
