Came across this quote today, via my webmail news feed. J K Rowling was receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University, and made a speech:
Was thinking about how this could apply to our "geographical imagination", particularly the final section of this.
How important it is that students empathise and share experiences with people they have never met, but who they experience through their geography work...
"We do not need magic to transform our world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better."
"Imagination is…the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation.”
"In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity; it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.”
J.K. Rowling, Harvard University, June 2008
