Just back from a pint of Old Speckled Hen at the Old Hunstanton Social Club, and popped in to get some Jersey Royal New Potatoes.
Like the Arbroath Smokies I had in Dundee last October, these have a PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION status (see symbol below), which I posted about some time ago.This means that they are:
"products which must be produced or processed or prepared within the geographical area and have a reputation, features or certain qualities attributable to that area."
Also a DEFRA report on LOCAL FOOD: what does 'local' mean ? Apparently according to a Waitrose ad I saw yesterday it means within 30 miles of the store...
Article in Times magazine yesterday talked about LOCAVORES: people who eat only local food.
